PENPARCAU AT THE ART CENTRE
The aim of the pilot project APT: Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Penparcau Forum Together was to partner Penparcau Community Forum with Aberystwyth Arts Centre for a ‘Creative Take-Over’ whereby members of Penparcau Forum groups and other Penparcau residents will effectively run and manage the venue for a week, with the support of the Arts Centre team.
This project supported development of the trainees’ transferable skills, helping them become more employable, and addressed specific skills shortages for the creative arts, hospitality and tourism sectors in the area.
Over a year-long period experienced Arts Centre staff trained residents from Penparcau in a wide range of skills including technical, event management, front-of-house, marketing and budgeting for the creative arts over a year-long period to help them become more employable.
At the end of the training project period, the Arts Centre was handed over to Penparcau Forum, who then ran a set of events and put their newly gained skills into action in a live, professional arts environment. They presented present a live music gig with the Hornettes, a day of cinema screenings (three in total) and a photography competition and exhibition which was opened by Elin Jones AM. A video film of the project was produced, and a programme ‘Stiwdio’ recorded for Radio Cymru.
