CONTEMPORARY FOOD CRAFT - CARMARTHENSHIRE COLLEGE AND CEREDIGION COLLEGE

The Contemporary Food Craft feasibility study by Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion was a cooperation project between Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.

The food and farming sector is a significant contributor to the Welsh economy and encompasses a large part of the food and drink supply chain. The project aimed to consult with and identify industry’s specific skills gaps, to support the retention of employees with higher skillsets in Wales and increase opportunities for supply chain growth and the sectors economic growth.

The project activities included:

  • Evaluation of current Market status
  • Consultation with Employers to identify skills gap and need
  • The new product development
  • Outline for new course content (Level 3 or higher)
  • Possible progression opportunities

As part of the feasibility study a report was created of the findings. The report identified gaps in educational provision beyond the standardised Level 1 and 2 Professional Cookery and Food & Beverage Service and interest amongst the sector in new / alternative qualifications and training to a Level 3 equivalent that can hone skills around provenance, production, preparation and preservation for horticulture, bakery, dairy, fish and seafood, butchery and charcuterie, patisserie and desserts and beverages.
