ADNABOD GORSGOCH - LLANWENOG WARD ALLIANCE

The project Identifying Gorsgoch has been brought to Cynnal y Cardi by the Llanwenog Ward Alliance.

Llanwenog Ward Alliance is made up of a group of people who are keen to strengthen the local culture of Llanwenog and Llanwnnen parishes. This is Llanwenog Ward Community Alliance’s first project and, in line with the Alliance’s objectives, the project shall add to the vibrancy of the Gorsgoch area in Llanwenog Ward, whilst recording and retaining information so that local people of all ages and backgrounds, as well as visitors, can benefit.

The project aimed to create three walks, erect information boards with a brief description on the main features of the area and get to know the history and natural richness of the area.

The project activities included presenting additional and fuller information on all the local paths using i-beacon technology, research on local research, recollections, artefacts, pictures, audio tapes and video, sharing information and develop enthusiasm and local pride amongst local people, including newcomers to the area and presenting information on the history and culture of Gorsgoch with information boards, digital material and walks.

The project focused on the village of Gorsgoch but it also benefited a wider area - the scheme created new activity for schools and organisations over a large area. By creating a model for other villages in the area, the scheme could also lead to a direct benefit for the whole of the Llanwenog ward. It also aims to attract more visitors to spend time in the area.

A launch event was held on the 17th of September, 2022 with members of the local community and other stakeholders present. A Ramblers' Walk was also held over the Christmas period in 2021 with local walking groups to promote the project. In addition to these events, local school children were also engaged in the project and a session was held with the local primary school to teach the children about the history of the local area and to make them aware of the project and its benefits.
